Tawheed and It's Types - Part 2

Assalam-o-Alikum

In my last week's topic about Tawheed (Those who have missed, click here) I had mentioned that there are sub categories, of the three categories of Tawheed. Just for a quick recall.

As proven by Sahih hadith, the five pillars of islam are

1. Tawheed
2. 5 Daily Prayers
3. Fasts of Ramadan
4. Zakaat Once a Year
5. Hajj, once in a Life time, If affordable.

The Word Tawheed Means unification (Making something one). It is Derived from the arabic word Wahid, Ahad and Waheed, Which means One.

There are Three Categories of Tawheed.

1. Tawheed Rubbuwiyah means is derived from the word RUB, which means LORD. It is to testify that the Lord of this World, creator and owner of this universe is Solely Allah SWT.

2. Tawheed Asma Wal Sifaat. Asma means Names and Sifaat means Characteristics. It defines that all the names and characteristics of Allah SWT mentioned in the Quran and Hadith, Solely Belongs to Allah.

3. Tawheed Iuloo-wee yah or Tawheed Ibadah. the word "Iuloo wee yah" is derived from the word "ILA" which means "deity which can be worshipped". This category defines that Nothing to be worshipped Except Allah SWT.
Anything which contradicts the definitions of Tawheed is a Shirk.

These Categories have further sub categories, Which inshallah I will discuss one by one.

1. Tawheed Rubbuwiyah

Tawheed Rabbuwiyah, is not further divided in any sub-category. This category is based on the fundamental concept that Allah SWT alone caused all things to exist when there was nothing. Allah SWT is the sole Lord of this world. And only Allah SWT controls everything. There is no power greater than Allah

The Prophet Mohammad Peace and Blessing be upon him, commonly
used the phrase "La Hawla Wala Quwwatta illah Billah " Which means There is no movement nor power except Allah's Will.

Allah SWT Says in the Quran Surah Zumur, Chapter 39 verse 62

39:62 - GOD is the Creator of all things, and He alone has the power to determine the fate of all things

Also, in Surah Saffat, Chapter 37, Verse 96.

37:96 - "But Allah has created you and your handwork!

Surah Taghabun, Chapter 62, Verse 11

64:11 - No kind of calamity can occur, except by the leave of Allah. and if any one believes in Allah, ((Allah)) guides his heart (aright): for Allah knows all things.

Common Shirk Done in this Category:

1. Use of Amulet (Taveez)

The use of any form of Taveez, or Black Thread, Used to ward off or protect from Evil Eye or misfortune, Is a shirk, as Several Hadiths are mentioned in this regards

It was narrated that 'Abd-Allaah ibn Mas'ood (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allaah (blessings and peace of Allaah be upon him) say: "Ruqyah, amulets and love charms are shirk."

Narrated by Abu Dawood (3883) and Ibn Majaah (3530): classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood.
------------
It was narrated from 'Uqbah ibn 'Aamir al-Juhani that a group came to the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) [to swear their allegiance (bay'ah) to him]. He accepted the bay'ah of nine of them but not of one of them. They said, "O Messenger of Allaah, you accepted the bay'ah of nine but not of this one." He said, "He is wearing an amulet." The man put his hand (in his shirt) and took it off, then he (the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)) accepted his bay'ah. He said, 'Whoever wears an amulet has committed shirk."
(Narrated by Ahmad, 16969) This hadeeth was classed as saheeh by Shaykh al-Albaani in al-Silsilah al-Saheehah, 492.

2. Superstitious believes (Black cat, Kaali Billi)

There are many superstitious believe which goes against Tawheed-e-Rubbuwiyah, Like
  • Crossing of a Black Cat,
  • Breaking of a Glass
  • Number 13
  • Opening and Closing of Scissors without a reason
  • capsized (upside down) slippers or shoes.

Consider Surah Aaraf, Chapter 7 Verse 171

7:131 - But whenever good fortune alighted upon them, they would say, "This is [but] our due"; and whenever affliction befell them, they would blame their evil fortune on Moses and those who followed him. Oh, verily, their [evil] fortune had been decreed by God-but most of them knew it not

Also Surah Yaseen, Chapter 36, Verse 18-19

36:18 - The (people) said:  'For us, we see an evil omen from you; if you cease not, we will surely stone you, and a painful torment will touch you from us.'

19. They (Messengers) said: 'Your evil omens be with you! (Do you call it 'evil omen') because you are admonished? Nay, but you are a people Musrifoon (transgressing all bounds by committing all kinds of great sins, and by disobeying Allaah)'"
